The New School Year

Today we are finally starting school. I'm going into 8th grade. This year I'm using Teaching Textbooks Pre-Algebra for math. It is the best program I've used so far. We have a new science program and we will incorporate our writing in with that. Leah is going to be a freshman in high school, and Maggie is going into 6th grade. Also, our reading program is Sonlight. It usually has some good books. It will probably be a pretty packed year.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepard; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Psalm 23

This is my favorite verse in the Bible so far. It is very comforting. My family is memorizing it. What is your favorite?

Job: The Behemoth

Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as the ox. Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.
Job 40:15-17 (king James)

When I read this verse, the footnote at the bottom said "Possibly the elephant", and I thought it seemed right. After all, it's a strong animal that eats grass, right? But when we went to the Creation Museum this year, we watched a movie about dinosaurs. It made me realize that it did not make sense. The elephant's tail does not look like or even resemble a cedar. The movie said that what the Bible was talking about might have been a Brachiosaurus or some other dinosaur. To me, that makes a lot more sense.

A Verse

It is better to live on a corner of a roof than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife.

Proverbs 21:9, 25:24 and 21:19

This verse really struck me when I read it. Wives should not be quarrelsome and bad-tempered. Since it was said three times in three different places, it must be rather important.

A Family Post

My family is the best! My mom and dad home school us. I have two sisters, aged eleven and fourteen, who are my best friends. I also have twin brothers who are two years old, a baby brother who is almost four months, and our grandmother lives with us, too. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful family!

My New Blog

This is my first time blogging on my own. I'll try to make reading worthwhile. Hope you enjoy!
