Okay, It didn't snow for Christmas, but hopefully it will snow later. Right now it is raining/sleeting
/icing. Not exactly snow, but close! I am praying for snow!!!!
We took down our decorations today. To tell you the truth, I was kind of sick of them. I know I will be excited next year, though.
2010! I can't believe it is already 2010. It sounds like something from the future.
Happy New Year, everyone!!!!!

A poll
Which do you like better?
Knitting
Sewing
Crocheting
Please comment and tell me.
Also, do you have any ideas for a very impatient beginning sewer/knitter?
If so, I would very much appreciate it if you could comment that, too!
Thank you!

A Riddle
Here is a riddle! It is a hard one...
What is greater than God, more evil than the devil, the poor have it, the rich need it, and if you eat it, you will die?
I will post the answer soon!

A Book on Tape Recommendation
The Screw Tape Letters, by C.S. Lewis
This is a great tape. It is a very good book, too, but the narrator on the tape is wonderful.
It is a series of letters from a demon named Screwtape to his nephew. It is interesting to hear someone writing letters from this perspective. I would recommend it to ages 13 or 14+.

5 things about me
I thought that this would be a good chance for readers to get to know me a little bit better.
1. I like how the word circle sounds. (Don't ask me why, I just do!)
2.I used to bite my nails. (Or, at least, I'm trying to stop!)
3. My favorite dog is either a pug or beagle.
4. My favorite book series is The Series of Unfortunate Events.
5. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to read!
Alright, I can't think of any more. I will probably do this again later.

Random Thoughts
Today was school. :p I am doing Teaching Textbooks Pre-Algebra, and today was my first algebra lesson. It was interesting. Last week I had a math test and a science test. We are using Exploring Creation with Physical Science. I am learning a lot.
For devotions, we have been reading The Screwtape Letters, by C.S. Lewis. First we were reading it, but then we started listening to the book on tape. I like the book on tape better.
Then, next on my random thought post, there is dessert! Dessert deserves a paragraph all its own. My favorite dessert lately has been M&Ms. I love them. I also like to make milkshakes. DELICIOUS! :D
Christmas is just around the corner! We are having Christmas with my daddy's side of the family on the 20th. Do you have any Christmas traditions?
Maggie's birthday is on the 18th. We are planning on going rollerskating, a hard task with the little ones. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAGGIE!
Well, for now that is all on my random thoughts. What did you think? Should I make more posts like this?
What has been going on in your life lately?

Book Recommendations
The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin
The Sherwood Ring by Elizabeth Marie Pope
These are two of the cleverest books I have ever read. They were part of our school curriculum.
The Westing Game is for ages 10 and up, and The Sherwood Ring is for about 12 and up. They were really good.

Monday's Scripture
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
This verse is always good if you need a boost in life. It was one of the first that I memorized. I love it!

Jesus' Parables
Jesus told some really great stories. Here is my favorite:
The Parable of the Sower
"A farm went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop-a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. He who has ears, let him hear."
Matthew 13:3-9 (NIV)

Revelation...
When you read that word, did you experience a shudder? Usually when you think of Revelation, you think of a dark book, with prophecies of death and destruction. In a way, it could be, but mostly it is a crucial book for believers to read.
"I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last..."
Revelation 22:13
We have been reading Revelation, and even though it is kind of scary, it lends you quite a bit of insight into the last days. You can see what is to come, and how it will be for believers. Are you ready?
"When we stand before the Almighty Judge of heaven and of earth, we will not be asked what church on earth we belonged to, but the only question will be: "What have you done with Jesus who is called the Christ?"- Revelation by M. R. De Haan, M.D.

The New School Year
Today we are finally starting school. I'm going into 8th grade. This year I'm using Teaching Textbooks Pre-Algebra for math. It is the best program I've used so far. We have a new science program and we will incorporate our writing in with that. Leah is going to be a freshman in high school, and Maggie is going into 6th grade. Also, our reading program is Sonlight. It usually has some good books. It will probably be a pretty packed year.

Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepard; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Psalm 23
This is my favorite verse in the Bible so far. It is very comforting. My family is memorizing it. What is your favorite?

Job: The Behemoth
Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as the ox. Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.
Job 40:15-17 (king James)
When I read this verse, the footnote at the bottom said "Possibly the elephant", and I thought it seemed right. After all, it's a strong animal that eats grass, right? But when we went to the Creation Museum this year, we watched a movie about dinosaurs. It made me realize that it did not make sense. The elephant's tail does not look like or even resemble a cedar. The movie said that what the Bible was talking about might have been a Brachiosaurus or some other dinosaur. To me, that makes a lot more sense.

A Verse
It is better to live on a corner of a roof than in a house shared with a quarrelsome wife.
Proverbs 21:9, 25:24 and 21:19
This verse really struck me when I read it. Wives should not be quarrelsome and bad-tempered. Since it was said three times in three different places, it must be rather important.
A Family Post
My family is the best! My mom and dad home school us. I have two sisters, aged eleven and fourteen, who are my best friends. I also have twin brothers who are two years old, a baby brother who is almost four months, and our grandmother lives with us, too. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful family!
My New Blog
This is my first time blogging on my own. I'll try to make reading worthwhile. Hope you enjoy!
